I recently purchased a Sharp QA-1650 on E-bay to use for powerpoint presentations in my classroom. It took me some time playing with some of the settings to get a picture, but the only picture I can get is the background that I have set on my computer. What do I need to do to get my computer screen or a running program like pwerpoint to run on the panel? Please help!

Clone mode

You have fallen in the Win 2000/XP dual monitor trap.

PowerPoint can only display slides on the primary monitor. You can either make the external monitor primary (usually impossible on most laptops) or you can activate clone mode that displays the same image on all monitors.

First, you have to deactivate the secondary monitor in your display settings. Then from the same window click on advanced. Depending on the brand of video card you will find something called clone mode.

With ATI click the Displays tab and below the monitor icons you will find a small button that looks like a bulls eye - that's the clone mode activation! Video superposition is automatic on most ATI cards.

With nVidia one of the tabs is called nVidia (it's yellowish green) and it will have fly out menus. They usually open to the left when you click on the border that has a little triangle pointing to the left. In one of those sub menus you will find a button or pull down menu called clone. If your presentations contain video you will also have to activate video superposition otherwise you will have a black video window on the external monitor.

There are other variations but I can't remember the other click sequences without looking at the menus.

I took me over a year to figure out how to activate clone mode on all the laptops teachers use at our school - this problem did not exist with Win 98 only on Win 2000 and up.
Oh, and you have to be logged in as an administrator for this to work. If your laptop has any restrictions activated by your IS department you are out of luck! Windows will not complain or give error messages that it cannot activate clone mode - it just won't do it unless you are an administrator.

Good luck, hope this helps
