is this panel any good for video projection?
ive read somewhere that this panel only has 186 colours
also is 50ms a good response time?

it has 185000 colors (which will suffice for video) i read this is an ok panel not super , but also not too bad
1.7 million, good panel
640*480 res however contrast appears to be 1:30 (in databases about panels) (which is in my opinion not true except , for minumum contrast, normal contrast will probably be 1:100 just like all other panels)

i was told it was 50-1
i was also told that all sharp panels have 50-1 except the qa 2500 and the qa 1650 (or 1750 not sure)

seeing xbox games and how fast they go............i don't think so ,i think its to slow. But thats based not on experience, so maybe someone who tried it can tell (response times are not always what they seem , my panel is fast enough for games , but my (very old )beamer isn't, both have 30 ms response times)
Im pretty sure the 1150 is no good for what you want. I have no experience with 1500 but I think negative design had that panel before. The 1500 or 1400 have more colors and should be alot better. But like MSX-2 said the response time for these panels are way to slow for todays games. Although if you can get these panels for very very very very very cheap and just for starter projects you wont like it for long. Just my brain farting

Hey pal; don' t buy Sharp ones... For Xbox, it should be fast. These panels have very poor response times. If you think to use with Xbox, then go for 3M 6750.
It is a perfect panel for every kind of need 😀

3m 6750>16.7 m colors 800*600 native (i think , it does 1024*768) response time probably 30 ms , should be a good panel

i have a sharp 1500 and it works fine for xbox and video not very good for computer games though. but for the money its a good panel.
sharp qa-1500 good @ss panel
Just reply, xbox works awesome, only has rca input, so video quality is a little limited, but the response is fast enough to run sports games, and video is amazing on this dvd looks awesome
I can tell you that the qa-1150 is lousy for colors as I tried replacing the qa-1500's lcd with another and all video looked wierd for shading, looked terrible, so changed back lcd to original, and it worked great
the only thing I don't like about the 1500 is that it doesn't have S-video input, and resolution is 640X480(mine also had dead pixels on it, but the color was very good.
I wish the qa-2500 wasn't so pricey, as I'd go sharp all the way

What about FPS and racing games...? Many fps and racing games are working at 60fps. Do you think 50ms response time fast enough for these kind of games?

Usual people could understand what I mean, but if your eyes are not sensitive then you can' t understand the difference... ( I mean SHADOW EFFECT ! )
I think it is fast enough for strategy 😛 and some sports games ( like golf games ..: ) but it is definitely not enough for other kind of games. Besides, Sharp 1150 and 1500 are very poor panels for fast motion movies. (contrast ratios are also poor) Sure price is very important factor but these panels are not cheap enough.

hmmm would have to disagree about that the 1500 was plenty good during both matrix movies on dvd. but i also would love to have 15 in monitor as soon as price drops. and im sure if you could get the 2500 it would be even better than the 1500, but for the 150 bucks i gave for it ive been rather happy.
nothing like playin saltwater fishing on ps on 80 in screen fish are freakin huge.
anyway in conclusion i would say a sharp 1500 and up would be fine at the right price escpecailly for a newbie project.
im running apollo ai modded with 250 mh diylabs fresnell and triplett and i love it set it up in about 1 hour and have a great picture all my friends who have bigscreen tvs are jealous when they see my projector. finally cost was under 400 bucks😀

I can understand your feelings 🙂 You guys are using 1500, so you should be happy 😛 but Sharp panels are expensive.
And you can buy Ovation 820 ( svga & 200:1) or Powerview 820 ( svga & 200:1 contrast ratio!!! less screendoor and better/sharp picture guaranteed ) for same price. These panels are so much better than Sharp 1500, even they are cheaper than 1500. These are quite clear reasons imo 😉
PS: meaning of quality is changable
but technical specs are not...

Just a quick note to say - I have had a PV820 for nearly a year now, and the CR is only 100:1 on mine. (Maybe an earlier edition?). However, the response time is one of the best in it's class at 25ms......still only capable of 40fps though! Not many TFT screens or panels are down below 15ms response unless you have truckloads of cash to spend!
