My records show that your Magnavox CD2000 is the same as a Philips CD482. But there is a catch, I know of at least 3 CD482 variants:

- CD482/00 has SAA7210, SAA7220 and TDA1541
- CD482/10 has SAA7210 and TDA1543
- CD482/30 has SAA7310, SAA7220 and TDA1543

Unfortunately, I only have the manuals for the /00 and /30 models. I have a couple of these /10 NOS players, but I have not modified either one. They aren't sonically stunning stock in my opinion.

I have a service manual for CD482 and it definitely is NOT the same as CD2000 or CD492; I think it's what you note for "CD482/00"???? Can you send me a copy if convenient? Thx!

Your player is the same as a Philips CD482/10, but it is diffrerent to a Philips CD482/00 and CD482/30.

You mean Magnavox CDB492, I don't think there is a Philips CD492.

Anyway, unfortunately I don't have the manual for a CD2000, CDB492 or CD482/10. I don't think these players were that rare either, like I said, I have two!

hollowman - I realized your post was years ago but did you ever find a manual for this player? I also acquired a Magnavox CD2000 - the internals look exactly like your pictures except with no modifications on the right side.

You are right about the sound - it does have that NOS analogue tinge - not as detailed as my CDB650 but nice to listen to. I am not experienced with mods and was going to start by simply swapping the opamps to see if I can get a more detailed sound from it. I am interested in a tubed output stage on it but do you think something like that would be worth it for this player? -AE

I just picked up a Magnavox CD2000 from Goodwill today. Compared to the Rotel RCD855 it sounds diffused and unbalanced. (The 855 was another Goodwill find a few weeks back, has SAA7210, SAA7220 and TDA1541A), There are similarities in the sound of the CD2000 and RDC855 when compared to my Ubered Schiit Bifrost (using the 855 as a transport). The Bifrost is definitely more refined than both of the Philips-chipped players, harmonized voices are just beautiful! However the Rotel 855 sure is fun to listen to with some songs. The Magnavox CD2000 is rather a mess of sound with potential in my humble opinion. I bought the CD2000 because I want to experiment with a NOS CD player. I do not hear the NOS analog tinge yet compared to the 855, which is 4X oversampled, but just started with a quick listen to a couple of Eagles songs.

Getting back to this unit after a few years in storage ...

Every component still stock except I replaced TDA1543 with TDA1387.
Made a small improvement in fidelity.

Still searching for a damn schematic. Please PM if you've got one to share. Remember: this unit is similar to Mag./Philips CD-492

Question for anyone who may be the wiser:

At the output jacks there is a JRC4560 opamp.
Pin 3 [A + input] is connected to Left (hot) jack
Pin 5 [B + input] is connected to Right (hot) jack
I assume this is a muting circuit of some sort? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thx!

You might want to check Grunding CD8150 as it's also an native nonos player (SAA7210->TDA1543)

Thx! The schematic/srvc. manl. is at hifiengine.com.

The Grunding's topology (schema) is based mostly on Magnavox/Philips but its PCB layout is somewhat different:

Magnavox CD2000 (interior; main PCB only):

Between this Grunding 8150 and Philips CD482 schematics, I most can reverse engineer my CD2000.
