Searching for Marantz cd-50 schematics

I'm trying to resurrect an old Marantz cd-50, and then mod it for transport duty. Don't have the schematics yet though. Any kind soul here who could email me a scan of those?

Any modding tips that have proven to be particularly effective in this machine are of course also much appreciated!

Thanks, Wim

Wim,

Dont have the schematics (looking for CD60 schematics myself), but i got mine working. What is your problem, maybe we can help anyway.

Do you know the testmode? Hold three buttons and then switch the machine on. If you have the correct buttons (don't know the ones for this machine, but i'll have a try at home later) you get into servicemode. From there you can see what works and what does not.

Also opening the machine and having a look at what the transport is doing can reveal something.

Going to use mine to put in my own DAC later. As for upgrading this machine, you could go to non oversampling mode with resistor I/V without too much hassle. Search the net for info.

Greetings,

The first problem was that is skipped like crazy. Cleaning the lens didn't help, so faulting the laser I put it out of commission a year ago, and switched to a DVD player as temporary transport. Never really liked the DVD, and after reading that greasing the mechanism might help, even if it already appears to run smoothly, I gave that a try yesterday. It helped! The thing runs again, I'll give it a few days now to see if it holds up.

The remaining problem is sound quality. I'm using it as a transport into a half-modded Art DI/O, but although the Marantz is more musical and PRaTty than the DVD player, it's not very good at soundstaging and there's too much sibilance. So I thought I'd start off by replacing the 15-year old electrolytics, add some bitumen lining, and remove the entire D/A circuitry. (Though the non-OS idea sounds intriguing, I'll read up on that.)

But I'm not an electronics expert, I really need the schematic to see what's what... :xeye:

Well, no luck on the board, but after a few calls today I found a place where I could order the CD-50 service manual for 20 euros. It's on its way, so if anyone else needs it I can probably get you some scans later on. (Might take a little while though, they told me it's a big document and I don't know when I have the time to scan it.)

Would you consider emailing me a scan of the service manual? If so, for how much?

Hello :xeye:,
I have some problems with mine. I changed the operational amplifier and then it worked the first time. I decided to assemble all and then I pushed the button to listen I put a CD and unfortunately there were no initialisation. It can't found the CD.

I ask myself a lot decided to dissasemble to see what's wrong but nothing appeared. I finally choose to assemble it again. But it still doesn't work. Finally, I did a stupid thing whereas there were power I removed the link connection between the board and the panel control. Now it doesn't work and the lens either. I remarked that when I help the mecanism for the initialisation by turning with my end it seems to recognize the CD.
Last thing I powered my board only and it were some smoke near the power button but I don't know which component it is .

:bawling:
Well if someone can help me 😉 thanks and sorry for my noob english :smash:

CD60 manual

It was stronger than me... bought a CD60 from marktplaats. Wanted to hear that , as some people call it, "piece of sand" 1541A.

Does anyone have the service manual of this player or similar Philips make (630 I think I read somewhere)?

Thanks in advance!!

Jeroen
