I'm developing a 50L sealed subwoofer to compliment our satellite loudspeakers, and I've been working with some people in the US to this end. I also want to look at alternative European components, specifically those easily available to the UK.
Of paramount importance is sound and build quality, and also availability. I'm particularly interested in driver/amp combinations that have been used and proven reliable together and would appreciate peoples experiences.
Driver size is 12" and amp is dependant on driver efficiency, but from 250w - 500w. Cost for the pair will be around 400 - 600 Euros approximately.
cheers

Thanks for the tip. I take it you've used or have heard this driver in action ? Would you recommend a specific plate amp to partner the driver ?

At a quick glance Peerless seem to recommend the 830845 for sealed applications at a volume of 62L. A little bigger than the 50L I was aiming for.
I have no practical experience with Peerless I've just been simulating them for a few days. 🙄
830847 is 12", fits you budget and Q is 0.707 in 52L sealed box. 830845 need 115L to hit the magical Q value 0.707.
830847 is more expencive than 830845 but it has two voice coils which makes it more flexible.
I'd go for Hypex DS2.0 (if you need the extra features) or a high power amp like these:

Thanks for the advice on the Peerless ! Makes my life easier if I don't have to adjust the box size too dramatically !

You should really download something like UniBox or WinISD Pro to check the drivers by yourself. You'll see which one is better for you.
I never really look at the manufacturer recommendation, I just put them in WinISD and I look at them.
I would check:
Peerless XLS12 830500
Peerless XXLS12 830847
Peerless XXLS12 830845
Peerless XXLS12 830844
Seas Lotus SW300
I would even check these...
Peerless XLS12 830515 Car version
Peerless XXLS12 830877 Car version

Cheers for the pointers.
I'm also looking at the Eminence LAB 12 as I can get this in the UK reasonably easily, and the same distributor will be selling a 300w and 500w amp with EQ to use alongside the driver, which will be handy in a smaller enclosure such as my 50L

I am utterly confused at the selection of new XXLS drivers and wondered which Peerless driver someone would recommend when using the 350w Rythmik Servo amp in a sealed 50L box.
I will add that I am not expecting roof lifting volume levels, but I am looking for clean extended bass, as it will be partnering quality satellites.

Is this sub you are asking people to recommend drivers for going to be a commercial product? If so, is it going to be a kit or a finished product?
If it ever gets done ! It is intended to be a pre built sub to partner satellite speakers, which is why quality is paramount, both engineering, sound and finish.
Basically I've designed some wife friendly hifi, that have sound quality and looks as the main design goals. I don't claim to be an expert in all fields so I'm trying to augment my knowledge to produce the best speakers that I can.

That was my next move, and ironically it's actually cheaper ordering them from the US and importing them !
