Sorry for veering slightly off-topic QuarkStrange, but can you point me towards a reliable source for 813's? I'm thinking about one triode-mode for the next project.

Why ? 813 is very easy to drive. It requires very slight power to be driven and some people are using 6SN7 quite successfully with it. For a good example see here :

The 6SN7 is a very nice tube, but for driving an output tube, the lesser the Rp, the better it is... I would suggest a 12B4A or a tiode connected 6F6 (or 6V6)
