I'm new here and a new owner of a pair of sd1s (conventional tweeter). They're infinite baffle speakers with a nice functional look roughly the size of Celestion sl6s from I guess the late 80s.
They sound very good to me, timing through the mids and highs seems good, but I wondered if anyone had experience positioning these? I currently have them on Linn Kan stands—an open frame design about 53cms high, and about a foot out from shallow bays surrounding a chimney breast (a foot out from the breast that is). They're about 3 feet from either sidewall. If I push them back I seem to get a little more presence but slightly forward gives a little more information to string tone; but otherwise these seem curiously unresponsive to positioning in my high ceilinged largish, squarish and bare room (whilst basically still sounding good). Anybody else have a recommendation?
And thanks in advance.

No, mine are much smaller I think, 2 ways with a very conventional appearance. I think my SD 1s use the same smaller tweeter as above. Mine would be approx 38cm by 23cm by, say, 28 cm. I passed on a bigger pair when I was a youngker back in the 80s, they were called 'obs's and had a spine supporting modular casings for different sized drivers. They didn't quite fuse.
same smaller tweeter as above
An Audax i suspect.

A thread here but it seems the 3-way: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/sd-1-speakers.137210/
Confusiong to have 3 different loudspeakers with the same designationn (i found a 2-way with an ElectroDynamic ribbon as well).

Dave, those are SD1 mk2 which are ported and have a different (Morel?) bass unit. I'll photograph mine and upload tomorrow. I think yours are very early steen doesing designs. SD acoustics had a numer of admirers amongst the owners of the nascent boutique hi fi ships in the UK in the eighties. I heard some on the end of a pink triangle dpa deltec combination sounding pretty great.
