Has anyone ever tried creating a screen with built in speakers. Something like using Plas-Tex for the screen with a black border, but on each side of the screen is about 6" of black cloth covering up flat panel speakers? thoughts anyone

a pancake called woofer

would be kind of interesting to find a woofer about 2 inches thick. that's the sapce i have between screen and wall, ofcourse when we move next year, probably April/May, i wil make some kind of a stage, but more a 'trompe l'oeil' than stage.

beside, if i would put a woofer or for this matter any speaker behind the screen, that would not do any good to the sound, because the black out cloth with the thin vynil side will block the sound more that one would wish.
for a screen that let sound go through you will have to go for a 'more pro-approach.

There's actually a cloth for this

The large (commercial) theatres use a cloth for their screen that is actually perforated with tiny holes to allow them to place their speakers directly behind the screen. However, apparently they tear very easily. I believe I read about these in that guide that you had given us the link to before, Uvodee. I'll have to look that up and get the name of that screen material. Might be out of the $$$ range for us DIYers!

yes as i mentioned in one of my earlier posts.
If i remember well, this stuff was perforated, miuscule holes, i think the cloth was about $65 per sq ft. and with glassbead it went up to $95/sq ft.
