Greetings,
I have a pair of Crown Joule 24ks. Well crafted and exceptional sound.
One of the drivers (6.5") was not working sounding nasty with distortion.
Pulled and found to my surprise these were dual voice coils. each reading an exact 4 ohms.
One coil on one of the drivers was open. it is a carbon fiber dipped cone with a bullet aluminum dust cap that is actually fixed to the pole so it is fixed while the cone surrounding moves. I cannot find any specific specs to this driver since it was specifically made for this speaker and the Tesla which had two of these drivers on each speaker.
Wired one coil and am getting a nominal 4ohm reading whereas the working speaker reads a 6 ohm. Is a dual voice coil safe to run independant from the other on a DVC? Should I do the same with the other side?
Any thoughts on fixing?
Any replacement ideas?
Heard Silver Flukes from Madisound are a decent match but seems so inexpensive.
