Hi guys,
My Schiit Modi 2 USB DAC has recently stopped working.
With some guidance I'd like the challenge of attempting to troubleshoot and repair. The DAC is based around the CM6631A chip. I believe this chip is common enough. Is there anyone who is familiar with this who could assist troubleshooting?
Current Status:
LED turns on but device not detected
Currently on a Windows 10 machine I'm getting error 43 port reset failed
doesn't work on Mac or Windows 7 either
I'm gonna start checking that each of the chips are getting power and do an inspection.
Thanks in advance for your help

All test points are showing the correct voltage and the voltage regulators are working fine. So no issues with power.
No physical damage that I can see either

If stuff goes bad in normal use manufacturers often are willing to keep a customer happy (even outside the warranty period) . Did you ask Schiit at all?
No love from Schiit.
They were pretty quick to come to the conclusion that it is a hardware issue.
I was hoping for a software driver solution etc.
Out of warranty and not economical to repair by them, that's why I was hoping someone could assist me troubleshoot more for the challenge of it....

I would have hoped that a device like this would be really reliable. There is no heat or even a power supply as it is usb fed
They choose the right name for their company in that case 🙂 I am not familiar with replacing CM6631A but it seems that one if faulty. Or could it be that it lost its firmware? In that case you could try to reflash firmware. There often is a kind of emergency mode when a device does not function anymore.
For CM6631A there are tools on the web to check and reflash firmware...since the unit is already broken you could invest some time in the firmware tool.
