Have you read Troels Gravesens writeup?

SBAcoustics-tweeters

Im currently working on a project with the SB29 tweeter. Both tweeters are indeed very good performance. I use the SB26 Alu right now. Also a very good tweeter. SB29 may be a bit more warm/soft in its sound. But SB26 Alu is by no means hard/edgy. In the end it is a matter of taste AND the skill from the builder.

Which midwoofers are you planning to use?

Thank you for the answer!

I have 2 projects: One is a competition between 3 of us in the Hungarian forum. The woofer should be from the PFC series and the budget (only speakers) is ca. 130 EUR.
I choosed 16PFC25-8 and 26ST-C000-5. The tweeter is not good, I missed the top and the stage is narrow. I like the 19ST, but would like to cross lower, need a bigger tweeter.

The second is this for myself:
SBAcoustics-3WC

I had Seas 27TBC and I liked it. I had Morel MDT30 and I liked it too. I know, the best should be to buy both tweeters and try them, but I would like to save money and time 🙂

Just from the datasheets:

The SB26STC-C000-4 with Fs=750Hz, Qms=3, and larger rear chamber, has a smoother and more extended frequency curve than the SB26STC-C000-5 which has an Fs=870Hz, Qms=5, and simple shaped smaller rear chamber. I would use the SB26STC-C000-4 with a 5" midrange over a 2.0-2.5kHz crossover range.

The dimple-dome SB21RDC-C000-4 looks like a good choice for a 4" midrange with a 2.5-3kHz crossover because the smaller diameter holds a 180-degree polar pattern over this range, and the dimple smooths the off-axis higher frequency dispersion.

The SB29RDC-C000-4 is my favorite tweeter for 1.5-1.8kHz crossovers to 6-7" midbass. I use it with Satori MW19P-4 in my computer desk monitors.

Can you extend your personal 3-way speaker budget to include the under-hung motor Satori MR13P-4 or MR16P-4? Discuss on the Hungarian forum.

Hello!

1/ OK, I like 29RDC - I will buy that

2/ The Hungarian forum is "dying", only a few people built loudspeakers :-(

SB12MNRX25-4 - 39,6 EUR
MR13P-4 - 94,87 EUR
Does it worth the double?

I should buy 21RDC for the 3way and one of the above midranges, cross at 2,8-3kHz.

Best regards,
Sandor

I agree that the 4” SB12MNRX25-4 is an easier crossover match for a single 8" woofer like the SB23NRX45-8. Give some thought to a 1.5cuft stand-mount cabinet like Troels Gravesens 3-way vs. a 2.7cuft floor standing cabinet with extended bass using the same floor area.

The higher efficiency MR13P-4 or MR16P-4 midrange would favor two 8" - 9" woofers, or a single 10" - 12" side mount woofer to maintain a narrow front baffle.

I have just made TL enclosure for SB16PFC25-08 and SB19ST. SB16PFC25-08 was surprisingly good to my ears. It is now crossed with 1mH coil and impedance equalization circuit. Tweeter crossover section is still on the todo list. No good combo found yet with 1st order lowpass.

I seem to remember that the larger rear chamber with extra absorption material, plus the lower Fs=750 on the SB26STC-C000-4 gives it some sonic advantages(smoother SPL, fewer resonances) over the smaller rear chamber plus higher Fs=960 on the SB26STCN-C000-4.

The smaller neo-motor on the SB26STCN-C000-4 allows a shorter Center-to-Center distance which can reduce lobing effects (5" mid C-to-C with SB26STCN is same as 4" mid C-to-C with SB26STC), plus light weight for portable speakers.
