Hi,

just bought 4 Sanyo SP OSCON at Ebay shop from Hong Kong : pcMcs : PC motherboard capacitors ! mainly because the only one i found in Europe do not sell SP serie (Banzai Music in Germany)

Disapointed : values are 68 uF instead the 680 uF I bought ! One was 47 uF and non-SP !

Have you an idea seing the photographs ? Are they genuine ?

hummm, bought also Rubycon ZA ?! Value is 95 uF... does the precision 20% not give always minimum 100 uF to 120 uF but never under ?

Thanks in advance for your hints

the Sanyo have a crisp sound : swaped from a 680 uF genuine SP... but have to check with their 680 uF to be sure (check on a Subbu DAC- even without it with just the bypass x7r is far better : crisp sound disseaper). I wrote to the vendor ! Wait for a response to have the value I bought !

The color of the cap is purple, the genuine I have is more on the blue side of color... Don't know if the color change between years of product, countries or factories...

Hi Oliver,

Thank you so much, ach so: deutschs are serious !

benchmark the ZA 100 uf on the Subbu to have an idea if th erubycons are genuine... well don't know... prefer the genuine SP 680 uf/6.3 I have : fuller with more details, without crisp and great trebles (without feeling of third harmonics which distorse... subjective but my ears are always my last check !)

Have a B Plan for low impedance cap : Nichicon KH (ultra low impedance but no polymer) for the analog stage of ours TDAs....

cheers, have a good week end

pcms shop in HK gave me my money back and I sent them their Sanyo OSCON SP caps back as well !

So serious vendor. Well don't know if they are fake as I checked the size and case is conform, also the legs have coper in their center as the SP have to be... So maybe they just goes wrong sending me 68 uF instead 680 uf... (and one non sp cap in the shipment ?!) .

ESR is not the same as for the first it's 40 mOhm and it's 14 for the second value 😀...

So he sent you a $1 part (according to sellers website) and a junk part, both you didn't order, and you sent them back costing ~$2.50 for shipping??? It isn't much money, but still feels like a strange deal 🙂 A serious seller would sent you parts you ordered for free and wouldn't let you sent back $1 part for $2.50.

😀 Strange conversation !

Well this is because you don't know all the details.

Well: I bought 4 x OSCON SP 680 uF/6.83V (6 USD with shipment included) for a TDA DAC (for the two 6 V rails). And some Rubycon ZA also. Both discontinued as you know.

According Badcaps forum, this seller is one good exception when talking about chinese caps sellers.

But I received with the ZA, bad values for the SP : 3 x 68 uf/6.8 and 1 x non-SP 47 uf OSCON ! So I was disapointed. But immediatly give a bad return on ebay notation system. After some exchanges, etc (vendors wanted I remove firstly my notation before all discussions), I opened a PP request 😡. he gave my money back without asking the return of the goods. Well I decided myself to loose money to return the goods as the image of myself in front of my partial error and my total mirror (the morning after weak up) is more important for me. More important in fact than to save 2 euros. And I have not so much money those times! Well maybe if it was 2000 USD maybe the story would be different but also assume I would not had such buy also !

All is not a question of money... The vendor lost more than me btw. The last deal was with myself only... Billy Idol : "dancing with myself... ah ahha !"

Seller sent products you didn't order, perfectly normal to give negative feedback, very strange how ebay feedback system has become, it is your mistake when you give negative feedback. 😀

He sells the MCZ too, old too if genuine, maybe even lower ESR than Oscons and no leaking. Low prices too, lower than some good looking fake ones I received year ago from other seller. I might just order some LOL I know I should not...no good reason to buy old caps.

I don't like MCZ : have bad reputation of solidity, have some from Server boards, I never liked how it sounded in a digital circuit !

You can have some better ESR with Nichicon KH everywhere : Farnell, Hificollective, etc ! As they are aluminium it's ok for analog stages.

old Sanyo Oscon are semi organic and not polymer ! I assume the sound difference much appreciated comes from this ! SP has also Cu legs.

If polymer I surmise you will have much more better result with a modern UCC PSA serie than this Rubycon MCZ ! Many prefer Rubycon MZG and better the discontinued ZA serie for both analog and digital PS.

For my own experience, it's all about compensation, so try & error rest the best method for me in each circuit I tune. However the SP OSCON give a very good balance very often. I find the moder Nichicon RS (red) polymer serie too much soft with a bad tube sounding in many circuit and prefer from Nichicon for digital the PSE serie (at the price of a lake of bass but what a treble and midlle : just perfect)...

BTW new Oscon SEPF 330uF/25V, Nichicon FPcap NU 330uF/25V, Chemicon PSG 390uF/25V all 3 from Mouser have nonmagnetic leads as far as I can tell, new Oscon SEPF 47uF/20V Digikey has magnetic leads.

I'll take a look at series you mentioned
