That will be a headache for Dan D'Agostino as he uses these devices by the thousands in his monster class A amps.
In fact each Relentless monoblock uses 128 devices!

I quite often look for cheapest parts from RS Components when designing something new.
Twice now after buying first batch some components have gone obsolete.
I suspect they were cheap to get rid of them.

Newer Sanken recommended equivalents are, 2SA1294 / 2SC3263.
Same price at Digikey but 130W instead of 160W.
I wish they had discontinued the 130W part and kept the 160W part instead of discontinuing the 160W part and keeping the 130W.
The higher ft is only for the NPN part. The PNP is still 35Mhz, which limits the pair to 35Mhz for complementary use. Also the vanilla version is 230v, the A version is 260v. I really believe the current (old) A1294/C3263 are good enough. They are the same wafers they used in the MT200 2sa1295/c3264 which were 200 watt parts. I think they rated the A1294 way too conservatively to be able to sell the 1295 at a premium (apart from better heat spreader). For example the Luxman M-117 uses 3 pairs of the A1295 and at 2 ohms can output 700 wpc, Similarly they use 3 pairs of the A1294 in the onkyo M-508 which is easily 3 ohm capable. I suspect the A2223/c6145 were binned parts using the same wafer as the A1294/3263, they are VERY capable parts.
In short, I would not worry too much till they discontinue the A1294/C3263.
