Hi,
I'm looking to swap out my old amp, a JL JX500/1d for my new JL JX 1000/1d. The swap should take me less than 10 minutes, except I don't know how to do this safely.
The power cable under my hood is very difficult to remove the fuse on. and I don't want to unhook positive or ground cables if possible, id rather move around fuses.
Would it be safe to remove the fuse in my distribution block, and before replacing it with a new one (Higher amp of course) swap the amp, then reconnect the fuse? Or should I disconnect ground from the amp before doing this? Or should I just suck it up for safety's sake and undo the power cable on my battery? Should ground be disconnected first? I know disconnecting the negative terminal is safe practice, however won't current still flow since my power cable is connected to grounded amps? That ground bolt in my trunk is jammed, practically welded to my car, so its not going anywhere, I'd have to undo ground on the amp side by pulling out the cable.
I don't want sparks flying when I undo the fuse, nor do I want to replace fuses or damage my equipment, light things on fire etc. Or die, I wouldn't like to do that either.😀

You can remove the fuse in the distribution block. If the distribution block has a cover, reinstall it while working.
If you remove all connections to either battery terminal and there is no other battery, the battery cannot pass current.
Disconnecting the negative battery terminal is done first because there is no danger if you let the wrench ground/touch to the body of the vehicle. If you let a wrench touch between the positive battery terminal and the body of the vehicle, it's possible that it could weld itself in place and turn into a red-hot bar of steel.
