It has no problem opening it but loading a disc is a bit tricky. The moment the door is fully open it darts back to close right away. My dear Pioneer dv59 AVi lol. Reliability was rock solid until this started. I never ever had a Pioneer player act up before.
I really appreciate these players, but I won't risk loading my more expensive discs for now.

That's a common issue on many CD player devices when the disk tray cannot fully extend for some reason, or the open door sensor switch has become faulty. The control logic thinks that something is obstructing the tray path and retracts it. Door belt slippage, dirt on the tray mechanism and faulty door sensor are the most common causes.

I will get in to that link ^, ty. The door started doing like its supposed to but I'll still crack it open to have a look. I'm sure it will misbehave again.
It quite possibly will. It really does sound just like any microswitches just need a clean.I'm sure it will misbehave again.
Its added on the short list. The list that's becoming bit too long. But discs are priority so I'll likely open it this weekend.
That model is a sweet one the stand by can't compare.

My Sony CDP-338EsD was doing the random closing whilst opening and despite cleaning and lubing the mechanism and cleaning switches it still did exactly the same.
Finally I found a generic belt in the junk box and replaced the belt that drove the opener.
Fixed.
