I see there are several USB devices availible these days which come equip with S/PDIF (optical/TOSlink or coaxial) connectors and also state they are capable of S/PDIF pass through, like these two

Now here is the question.
If I hook up either of these to my Dell XPS 1530 notebook with USB and my Sony amplifier/decoder with optical cable/TOSLink cable, and play video files with DTS sound track, such as mkv files, will I'll be able to transmit DTS signals to my decoder and hear DTS 5.1 sound as I do when I watch DVDs with DTS track?
