Hello i reccaped sølvsuper 8 and it makes No so sound only faint hum. When i first got it i connected it to the power and it Just suddenly stopped making sound the 512 ohm resistor was disconnected when i got it. then i reattached it and it only makes a loud hum at the time i didnt know anything About Electronics. but now it has been recapped and yes i have checked the rectifier voltage and i can safely say its not the selenium rectifier. I am using the tape input if you are wondering. I also tested the radio with a dim bulb tester so i dont think there is anything majorly wrong with the power supply. Thanks in advance.
Sølvsuper 8 seems to use the standard tube complement and assembly method, so the fault finding routine you'll find on most antique radio forums and old radio service textbooks will work. I'd start by cleaning/deoxidize the tube sockets and wafer switch contacts. This is the most common fault area on this type of AM/FM radios. Then select the phono input and apply a signal to the phono connector at the back. If the low frequency amplifier works, but FM radio doesn't work, I would replace the ECC85 tube with a known good one. Some tests could be done to be sure that this tube really needs a replacement, but empirically it is by far the most common cause of totally dead FM reception. If the audio amplifier does not work: measure the anode, G2, grid and cathode voltages of the EL84 tube, then the anode and cathode voltages on EABC80 (do not attempt to measure the grid voltage of this tube). If a supply voltage is missing, check the resistor values. Check the volume potentiometer continuity (another very common fault). At this point is safe to replace the above mentioned tubes to check if they have been destroyed by the already replaced faulty capacitors.
