Hi,
I have one of the above. It won't read cds. I thought I'd first try cleaning the lens. I'll try some isopropyl on a q tip and gently rub the lens, then wipe it with a clean q tip. Sound sensible?
Then if that doesn't work I'll order a new transport. Only I don't know what these use. I've spent a while on google and nothing comes up. Can anyone fill me in.
Also, I've been looking here http://www.zerogain.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12261
Would the same methods etc. apply?
Thanks in advance
Harry

It uses a Sony though dunno which one. Pop the lid, check on the side of the laser carriage, there will be a sticker with KSS###@, that will be what you would be after, afaik an A version must be replaced with an A, they are not backward compatible but I may be wrong.
What I mean is you get for eg KSS210A or B or C or D etc.

right ok. You (or anyone else) wouldn't happen to know of a supplier in the UK of them would you?
Also, can a dirty lens give the same symptoms as a dodgy pickup?

Dalbani/Grandata Donberg are in the UK.
Yes, dirty lens can cause same grief.
There are those that feel that solvents can damage the coating on the lens, use distilled water and wait longer for it to dry or a quality photgraphic lens cleaner I have seen recommended by Philips in a service manual.

I'm still waiting for it to arrive... (going on description). Grandata seem to have a small; choice of pickups, and none start with kss, unless I'm looking in the wrong place.
Would distilled water clean enough dirt/grease off? You wouldn't remember the name of the cleanner philips recommended you would you?

The cleaner was a Kodak product, try distilled water first, or just Qtip held in a kettle's steam....
KSS lasers are on Grandate, at least half a dozen, look for cd pickups by part number.

Right so I've been fiddling. Wouldn't read anything, then I cleaned the laser with a qtip after steaming it. Helped a lot - plays almost all cds, and well. I then tried some lens cleaner, didn't help.
So there are still some cds it won't read (you can hear it clicking away, with the screen showing the track numbers). Nothing else happens.
Is my only option now a new laser assembly, or are there any other tricks I can try first?
Thanks
