Roksan Kandy MKIII AMP won't come out of "mode" - green light.

Hi - 1st post - looks like a very good informative forum...here goes.....

I hope I've posted in correct area.

I've been fitting a security light and disconnected the lights on the circuit board for our home. When I've cut through the cables the RCD has turned off and all power to all electrical items has gone - I should have turned off all the electrics including TV, AMP etc but assumed as they are on a surge protection plug extension, if anything was to go wrong at least they shouldn't blow.

However, when I've turned the RCD back on the Roksan Kandy MKIII AMP won't turn on. The mode light is on green - as soon as I try to turn on and select a channel such as CD, I hear a "click" and it goes from 2 red lights (mode and CD) back to green (Mode).

I've checked the outer fuse, which is fine. I've taken the top off the AMP and apart from dust looks OK to the non-trained eye. The fuses on the board look ok.

I've had this problem before and I'm sure I left it out of power for an hour then turned on and everything worked again - however, that hasn't worked this time.

Any ideas on what could be causing the fault please? ...or any ideas on costs?

The AMP is around 18 years old and is as good as when I bought it. I really don't want to replace but obviously don't want to pay a fortune to get fixed too.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers Chris

May be a capacitor fault (?) The one which may have issues is the green capacitor bang in the centre of screen.

I know this is an old thread, but i found myself here looking for info years later....

any way, just repaired a kandy mk3 with the same issue (wont come out of standby mode) also the 5v input relays were going tits intermittently.

ChrisJoanne is correct the 2200uf 50v cap shown in the pic is the main culprit. this cap is the filter cap for the 7812, on the one i repaired the two smaller caps next to it for the 7805 were also in bad shape when measured but not bulging. I also had to replace the 7805.

the amp now works fine.

on later designs Roksan has moved the caps away from the VR to solve the issue without changing stock components.
