TOM HIDLEY (1931-2025). The sad news has been confirmed by multiple sources that legendary studio and audio designer Tom Hidley has passed away just short of this 94th birthday. There would have been no Record Plant without Hidley's acclaimed studio monitors and his collaboration with Record Plant co-founder Gary Kellgren resulted in an innovative control room that was repeated nearly 1000 times in studios around the world. We will be celebrating his life and achievements in the coming days but, in the meantime, give a read to this interview with Hidley, then living in Thailand, which was conducted by journalist Steve Harvey and Record Plant co-founder Chris Stone ten years ago in the early stages of research for our forthcoming book, "Buzz Me In."
