Interesting - Sparks seems to have been in the team at Bell Labs that fabricated the first BJT in 1951, but until today I had heard the names of only Shockley and Teal in connection with the invention of the BJT. Moreover, he seems to have gone into the management/administration track shortly thereafter, despite having physical chemistry credentials. Probably something to do with Shockley being notoriously difficult to get along with?
