Noooooo
Saw him in Chicago back in the '70's ... with Joe Walsh. Freeway Jam went on forever. Great guitarist. A true legend.
... thought 70 was not right ... he was 78.

So sorry to hear this. Many of Jeff's albums are among my all-time favorites. Literally no one played guitar the way he did.
Oh God. Rest In Peace.
You were a giant.
Bacterial meningitis. What a crappy way to go.
Such a loss.

My absolutely personal favorite guitarist of all time. I just finished cranking Blow By Blow, and now going to put Wired on. He just played south of Indy, and I couldn't go with my guitarist friend due to being booked. Damn it, losing Jeff just sucks all kinds of ways. Never compromised his path, and forever looked forward. RIP , and rip those posi burnouts sideways in hot rod guitar heaven. Glenn.
Fr me, Jeff Beck defined the guitar sound of the best Yardbird songs. It's hard to sort out where Jimmy Page's contributions are on different songs where both Beck and Page played together, but I'm pretty sure Over Under Sideways Down riff is Beck, as is the screaming "siren" in Happening Ten Year's Time Ago.
And the opening riff to Donovan's Barabajagal is wonderful (though why it is potted so far down in the mix, I can't understand).
I ws completely surprised that Blow By Blow took off on FM radio, as it was so fusion jazz with a blues inflection. We (the student programmers) overplayed all of the album cuts on our station, WBRU 95.5, Providence RI.

One of my favorite guitarists too. Saw him in Jersey with Buddy Guy about five years ago. He's got some great concert DVDs too, well worth checking out if you haven't seen them yet - Ronnie Scotts - Hollywood Bowl - Tokyo - Nagano - Les Paul Tribute.
RIP Jeff.
