Ribbon Mic Internal Blast Filter

Hey there!

First time posting.

It's extremely common to remove the perforated metal "Waffle plate" on Apex 205/Nady RSM2 type microphones to remove the high frequency extension and comb filtering that results from the poorly designed waffle plates in these microphones.

Once this plate is removed, however, the mic is extremely susceptible to wind blasts that can shatter the ribbon.

I'd like to remove this metal waffle plate, but retain the mics capability to withstand wind and plosives. I'm looking for a darker sound than stock.

I ordered some silk mesh originally used in the grille of classic RCA ribbon microphones (RCA 44 and 77). Not sure exactly what to do with this. Any recommendations on how to attach this to the inside of the grill and/or use this to create an internal baffle to protect the ribbon?

I've searched and found nothing on the subject. Most people just recommend using a pop filter, but this won't help with the rear side of the mic.

What do you think would be the best way to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance!
