Hi
Can anyone give me some advice on testing distortion level,s on my ribbons, what is the most affordable device or way of testing distortion?

That will be excellent.
Beware of the phantom power though, not all DAC/ADCs support it.
I use a WM61 with the Linkwitz modification, so I had to build my own phantom power and microphose preamp anyway

I and many others use the Dayton mics, USB or ordinary. My set-up seems swell: a second-hand Behriinger mic mixer which does everything with great flexibility incl phantom power to the mic and a headphone amp.
The downloadable file with the individual calibration correction is so close to flat, you really don't need to grind it into REW, given the wild swings of mic pick-up on successive days anyway.
Real trick is finding an adapter so you can mount your mic on your old camera tripod. Hint: make your own.
Don't forget to post your distortion curves.. if you are brave.

Ben, iv got mini DSP 2 x 4 coming plus a ECM8000 all i need is a pre with phantom.
Im very interested to see how my ribbons measure with distortion. They measure very flat from 400hz to 20khz.
Cheers

Another important thing is of course how you measure, distance, on-axis and so on.
Also very important is the room where you measure. Away from walls etcetera.
Perhaps you should "calibrate" your measuring with known elements and loudspeakers before you measure your own. Otherwise you might end up in chasing ghosts. Do sanity checks once in a while.
I totally agree with bentoronto: "Don't forget to post your distortion curves.. if you are brave."
So be brave!
And... Don´t forget to listen as well.

A Behringer mic mixer - cheap phantom power and very flexible. Lots out there second-hand.
I wouldn't sweat calibration. Nobody is trying to shake the walls with a tweeter and distortion results will be meaningful right up to the point where things start to get horrible.
I do all my measurements on a tripod right where my head normally is. Isn't that the real criterion?
