I need to replace 3 voltage regulators in a receiver that I'm refurbishing (7805,7815 & 7915). They are all TO-220 style.
There are lots of manufacturers and prices range from $0.50 to several dollars American. Can anyone recommend either a manufacturer for these (if it makes a difference) or a better alternative regulator?

Fairchild invented the things, I think they are selling them again, under National Semi ownership, now TI. Other quality IC brands I've used lately, TI, On, ST, NJM. LM34x regulators have better regulation but are not pin compatible mostly.
The cheap commodity ones like from Mouser for under a dollar work just fine. No need at all to spend several dollars each.
IMO, it's the parts around the reg like bypass caps that are more important than the reg itself. I think Linear Technology had/has some improved spec pin compatible parts. LM320 and LM340 are also considered better parts.
There are plenty of drop-in "improved" replacements,
which have been discussed here and on other audio forums.
