have a JBL PSWD112 12" Subwoofer that unlike most lasted 4 years before its amp blew. I am considering buying a surplus Cerwin Vega CVT 200S 200Watt plate amp to replace the blown JBL Amp. However, the CVT 200S amp was rated at 200w rms and 300 w peak vs. 250 W rms 500 w peak. Anybody think I will have any problems? I can't use a parts express or other typical plate amp as they are much shorter than the JBL plate that was in there originally. I'd rather not have to rebuild the enclosure.

Thanks in advance.

you could always patch up the hole where the amp USED to be with mdf, and make a hole for a terminal cup. then make a small enclosure for the partsexpress subwoofer amp. Both those amps should work fine, though i woudnt reccomend going OVER the amount of power the original amp had, then you could run into problems. Are you sure the JBL doesnt just need a new fuse or somthing?

hi there, ebay did have the service manual for that jbl amp at a good price. crippledchicken

The fuse blows as soon as the power switch is pushed. However, if the amp stage is disconnected from the transformer, the fuse does not blow. Thus, there is some short of problem in the amp stage. These JBL subs were notorious for amp problems, so I'd rather just replace the amp than try to repair it. I did get a quote of $180 to repair it which is silly as JBL's replacement for this sub can be had for $210 online. I am just worried that the 300w peak may be too low for this sub as the sub is in a large room that is open to another room with a cathedral ceiling.
