Repairs on my Rockford RFX-8140

I guess I have to start new thread on this one.

I'm not giving up on the 8140. I just paid to much money.

The problem is when I put in a cd the player makes a slight clicking noise for about 3 seconds and spits out the cd with a E20 error message. The cd doesn't even spin.

I called Rockford and they were of little help. They refered me to a repair shop that did work on their older amps. I was told by both that even if they could find the problem, parts were no where to be found for this model.

I am hoping that someone out there that may have spare parts and repair skills could help me out.

Your time and efort will be well taken care of. And I am willing to ship it anywhere in this universe to get fixed!!!

I just cannot imagine a diferent cd player sitting in my dash.

many thanks in advance,

Paul

if you cant get it fixed close to home, and dont mind sending it to thailand, i'll give it a shot....not by me though, theres an electronics district here about 4 city blocks in area that sells nothing but electronic components...

i can use mine as a reference for the technician if needed.

i can get it modified to play vcd's too...

😀 but i wouldnt recommend it...

not to long ago someone at termpro was trying to sell me a 8140, might want to poke around over there and see what you can come up with.

It would be great if you could help out. But I cannot send the wire harness with it because when I installed it in my recent car It was for life. The harness it actually part of the dash and will never come out ever again.

If the repair is possible any idea what it could cost me?

I would declare it as:

"1 broken cd player for testing" on the Proforma Invoice to avoid any Custom questions.

Thanks alot,

Paul

the 8140 i have in my car, i soldered the rcas to the actual pin terminals on the deck...so harness/plug may not be required.

but i have to check the manual to see if the power wires are seperate from the rca harness...

(either way i can just slip in my harness/plug...but will be soudless for a couple days 🙁 )

hopefully , im thinking it will cost no more than $50 U.S....but surprises are always expected...

FEDEX charges tax no matter what you declare it as, i use to import car audio stuff so found out the hard way...

from the U.S. if you send it USPS (not UPS)and declare it as a 'gift' there will be no import tax (from the US as i know)... 😉

if you want to send it FEDEX so you can track it, just declare a low value...

(import tax is 20%+fedex handling charges=35% total)...they wouldnt know a pyramid from a brax...but if you want to buy shipping insurance it may be a valid question....

let me know ! 🙂

I've never seen the mechanism in a Rockford head unit but it's possible that they purchased the mechanism (or at least the laser pickup) from one of the larger manufacturers (Sony, Pioneer, Alpine). If you take a photo of the mechanism (top and bottom), one of the techs here may recognize it and offer suggestions for replacement parts.

Awakening the dead should be the new topic because my 8140 out of the blue started working again.

I really didn't do anything that I think helped. My wife, kids and myself were out yesterday and I decided to try just one more time. Behold, Works just like day one!

It could have been one of many things, But I really do not care, It is working again.

I would like to thank all of you out there that really put thought into this and wasted time on this poor guy and his 8140.

Regards,
Paul and his 8140

I remember i had also a pioneer deck that did this. It would give me an error when put a cd in, and then it would eject it out. i took it all apart and found the fault in mechanism it self, it would never completely clamp down. one of the side pins were bent. Once i fixed that it was good as new.
