repairing a DLP colorwheel

I have an infocus x2 that has developed a buzsaw noise on startup telling me that the colorwheel is about to give up the ghost. I was curious if anyone here has experience repairing the motors on a colorwheel.

I am pretty good with DIY, so a direct replacement or even a retrofit is an option for me. I have no idea though how different color wheels can be. do they pretty much all work the same?
