hi! i have a 2204 clone and want to reduce the gain of the high channel to achieve cleaner sounds with pedals, but little dirty.
Can I achieve this by modifying preamp cathode resistors?
THanks!!

Cathode resistor and the voltage dividers after the coupling caps.
Have you tried it with a 12au7, 12ay7 or 12at7 in the V1 position? That would definitely reduce the gain.
You could mod the low channel to be like the fender bassman bright channel.

You have *two* inputs, a boosted very high gain one and a "normal" one ... which I would not exactly call "clean" anyway, it will distort as much as , say, a regular Plexi Marshall.
So if you want "cleaner sound while using pedals" just plug into input 2, that´s what it´s there for.
Tube rolling, pulling a cathode cap, while Technically correct, will only have a mild effect (6dB at best) , Input 1 will still have lots of gain.
Want not-so-dirty sound? (it will never be *clean*)
What about turning first volume control down 1 or 2 notches?
That´s what volume controls are for.
