Good to know, I am going to place an order for some LND150 and other MOSFETs for a couple of Swenson regulators and some CCS.

I wonder if they keep stock in the UK or ship orders direct from the US? If they do ship from the US I wonder if I will get stung for import duty.

Cheers Matt

Of course. From what I can tell they are pretty much the US eqivivalent of our RS.
The only place I can find many obscure components (at least here) is Mouser.
I think its great that they have a UK website, I am probably really late realising this. I will use them whenever I cant find something here.

Cheers Matt

Mouser have a UK office and ship from the US; it is buried away in their "small print"

Be very careful when ordering items such as transformers - even small ones. I got stung for carriage that was more than the value of the item and there is import duty and VAT - not such a good deal after all.

For the UK, RS and Farnell are about the best.

Exactly! Get back to us when you have the parts in hand and know the final tally.

Mouser and Digi Key (DK) both strive to ship everything they can the same day you place the order. Both tend to be very similar in price as well (although they don't both carry all the same things). I like Dk's search capabilities better but Mouser lets you sort by price (and DK doesn't) which can be handy.

Mouser tends to have a few more tweak audiophile parts, like Wima caps but DK has some lines Mouser doesn't have like the Elna "Silk" audio electrolytics.

I live in Belgium and even I place an order with Mouser from time to time. I like the fact that they do small quantities, have a huge selection, and sell to people who are not VAT registered.

I always make sure I get a large enough order together to get free shipping ($75 I think).

Of course I'll often pay VAT and import duties, but I factor that in from the start...

OK it has taken several months to finally place an order. I just placed an order for fifty quids worth of rather hard to get MOSFETs and other crap to make the order up to the fifty quid minimum. I could have ordered less but that would have entailed a twelve quid charge.

I ordered a load of DN2540 and LND150 plus some rarer mosfets here for the Swenson reg. Admittedly I could have got the mosfets here cheaper but they bulked up the order and a load of 5W zeners that seem to be thin on the ground these days.

Ive got or will have 30 LND150 if anyone in the UK needs a few. I will be using 12 in my crazy AB2 cathode feedback amp, so I have 10 or so surplus if anyone needs them. 50p a pop, plus postage.

As for DN2540, I have ordered 30 but I am also looking at the large pile of 6080 so if you want some PM me, be aware that I work hard and may be a bit slow getting back.

Anyway I hope I dont get stung by some crazy self inforced UPS tax. Mouser state thate they pay the duty etc. on orders over fifty quid. Lets find out.

Cheers Matt.

I like Newark

I like Newark.com in North Carolina, they are quicker to the east coast by $5 UPS box. The same company is Farnell.com in the UK. If they show it in stock US (NOT in UK, although you can also see that stock with a $20 shipping fee highlighted), and you order by 1600, it will ship that day. I would have never known capacitor life and ESR could be specified without their selector tables. A couple of things they have had old stock that was cheaper than mouser's. But mouser has a speaker selector program, so everybody has their strength. The obsolete part was wire, I'm not so sold on silver plating everything as Mouser is, I don't live or sell in Europe. My committment to less lead in landfills is fixing PC CRT displays when the power supply fails, not pitching them (and all their sheilding lead) and buying another. This european lead phobia was justified from all the 2 year old PC's going to landfills, but not hand soldered amplifiers that also have to comply now.

At least to Belgium, Mouser ships with "DDP Incoterms" these days. This means I pay Belgian VAT to Mouser who pay it to Fedex who pay it to Belgian Customs. This means Fedex do their own customs clearance. This is way faster than having your shipment processed by the Customs officials, but you lose the chance that they let the VAT slide as Customs sometimes do.

A few years ago it was different, I paid Mouser ex-VAT and Fedex would send me a bill with the VAT + some flat charge, months later. 😡

I agree, its getting harder to get 60/40 here these days. Good job I have stocked up, must have about 10Kilos of the stuff😉

I am not sure how the rules apply to a valve amp. If you were to sell one as new then it would have to be lead free but I think it could be argued that its old technology and so leaded solder is fine. Not sure and I dont really fancy reading the whole WEEE directive🙁

Phew! that's a alot. I've been thinking of ordering some from Ebay @ £3.90 for 2 + postage £1

Yes I actually just bought 4 from Nic (Big Daddy) then realised I actually needed at least 8 so I took the plunge with Mouser.

I have bought stuff from Nic before and cant recommend him highly enough. I ordered the 4 DN2540 from him on Monday afternoon and they came this morning😀

He is always helpful and I have asked him for suff he doesnt have on ebay and he has come up trumps for a good price.

Anyway how many do you need? I paid £1.12 ea.

Yes, I ordered some valves from Antique Electronic Supply and they're coming via UPS. This will doubtless involve a great deal of swearing when the UPS bloke holds my goods to ransom at my door. I didn't see any way of getting AES to send my stuff in the normal post...

Hi Matt.B.H,

I have been watching Nic's (Big Daddy) stock dwindling over the past few weeks and was getting anxious. ( more so after you bought yours and reduced his stock even further ) His stock has been topped up again so he must have access to plenty.

I have been trying not to start any new projects until I have finished what I've have already started so I'm in no rush. If you happen to have 4 left over in a week or twos' time then that would be great.

EC8010,

I bought my K502 amp from AES and I had to pay postage to AES upfront and again to Ups on this end, I wasn't pleased. 😡 I then ordered hammond output transformers and parts which for some reason came by Royal mail and surprisingly had nothing else to pay ( not even vat 😀 )
