rear projection lights?

Hi folks, I have a Panasonic rear projection tv, already took off the Fresnel and set stuff on fire. I'm wondering if I can make some party lights out of the thing.
It all worked, except for convergence, but it is just too big. Any fun stuff I can do with this, suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks for letting me join the conversation.
PS, I'll get to audio soon enough.

Most RPTVs are based on normal CRT technology, there is often optical oil in the inner lens assembly but I do not believe that is especially harmful since such TV's must comply with safety regulations that would take into account the possibility of it leaking. Other than that it is all regular CRT technology (high voltage safety is a concern though).

If you are familiar with the processes of disassembling CRTs then you should be ok, else look up a tutorial on safely dealing with the high voltage parts which can stay dangerous for several days after the power is removed.

Useful parts are: The fresnel lens, colour filters on the CRTs, high voltage distribution block (has a big capacitor in it), power supply board (some are very easy to re-use). The focusing lenses can often be removed without releasing the optical oil, the optical oil may make good transformer oil too.

If each CRT tube is a separate sub-assembly then it should be quite easy to make some party lights. Just make up a frame for all the internals that points the CRTs at different spots on your wall and you should get blurry monochromatic images of whatever video you feed it, you might even be able to focus them. You could even feed it with a video test pattern generator that cycles patterns when triggered by some audio source. You should only attempt this though if you are familiar with electrical safety practices especially for the high voltage parts.

Or maybe this came too late.
