"All in one" power amplifier modules

Are ILP and Amplimo the same company? When I saw that Plitron was selling the Amplimo modules, I assumed that Amplimo was an evolution of ILP, but now seeing the ILP data sheets, I'm not so sure.

I have some of the old 30-watt ILP modules that I bought at a ham fest for $5 each. For around ten years I’ve meant to try them and see if they sound good. I would love to know what people around here think of them. It seems they could be an easy first amp project for a lot of people. It does however seem that with the external caps supplied in the PC card, that its almost cheating to call stuffing them in a box with a transformer DIY. (Not that I’m above it.) It would however be an OK way to get comfortable with wiring the transformer to the mains, rectifying AC, sizing filter caps and building a chassis.

I do seem to recall someone posting a project (I think last year) where they built some up in a nice chassis.

Hi, I have two very simmilar modules that I bought on ebay sitting in front of me right now. They, are produced byt he same people but, mine are HY60's and were originaly from RS. the physical size appears to be identical to those ones, and the maximum ratting presented for baoth are almost identical, the only diference I can see being the distortion figres for the ones you have pointed out are slightly better.

One thing that I am quite sure about this one is what is on the inside of this unit, as it shows onthe data sheet i have a power circuit employing a TDA2004 chip, but I can't say what would be in the ones you were looking at, as the description from farnell doesn't seem too clear to me.

Unfortunatley, I am antother one who has never actualy built these modules up into something I can listen too, so I can't say if it would be worth it for you, but I am in the process of building my first gain close at the moment, so perhaps I can connect the power supply up to these quickly before I give the gain cose a good go.

Andrew.

I did a google on ILP and Amplimo. The reason I didn’t post the links is because they were on a guys personal web site and I didn’t feel so good about the way he expressed his issues. He tended to slam the manufacture, but didn’t see any evidence that he had addressed his problems with them.

It might be a day or so but I think I can dig it up again.

I have a pair of these i have been using for years (about 20!) for various things.

They are decent , better than your average mid price amplifier or reciever, but not fantastic in any way.

They seem to be almost indestructable. I have had them in different cases, lent them out (once for 4 years), and they were used for a synthesizer amplifier for a while as well (not enough power!). now they are used in a test amplifier for speaker resonances and so on. they wont die if i accidentally short them 🙂

if i can remember back that far, i believe one of them had oscillation and it took me ages to find out what was wrong (no internet!) Turned out it was just the usual "capacitor between pos and neg rails" fixed it.

Anyways if you find them on E-Bay or something cheap they are worth having if you need a decent quality Utility amplifier.
