François, I'd kindly like to know how well your 7"x10" Kenwood performed in terms of bass response, and what are your takes on the newer KFC 7178 ?
Hello, I have used these drivers in my old hatchback car. With properly designed box (and room gain), the bass can be very good and you will not need a sub unless you want to kill your ears. BUT the bass is less controlable then a sub since you are feeding a three way speaker.
If you want to play with fire (it is what I did). I have disconnected the mid and tweeter from the woofer and bi-amped them. The bass were more controlable and the sound just perfect for a car.
As for the 7178, I guess they have improved the marketting value(gold connector, blue cone, etc) but the driver will perform very good.
From my experience, in a hatchback car, I prefer two 5.5'' speaker (takes less room) and a subwoofer. In a closed trunk, I prefer 6x9 or 7x10 only because even if you have a sub in the trunk, the bass is not very good because there is a seperation between the trunk and the car, so it is a waste of money.

Thanx alot François
.I'll be running them in th rear deck of the vehicle. I was thinkin of the 6x9s but figured the 7x10s have more cone area, hence better bass.
