I was brainstorming an idea last night about a 3 way system with 15" LF, cone mid w/ WG and HF driver mounted in a concentric configuration - see pic below.
The specific recipe is eminence kappalite 3015 LF driver, eminence beta 6A in JBL WG and selenium ST200. Thr HF driver will have the mounting flange trimmed to unshroud the mid WG and possibly serve as a quasi phase plug.
I'm I wasting my time with this idea? Then main reason for choosing this configuration is lack of baffle space.

I have had the same idea so that it makes it easier to get the 2 drivers to mesh. Will still require some time delay, but you only have to consider the in/out setting, not having to worry about pysical displacement in the height axis.
The HF pod can be considered a phase plug of sorts, shape it and the surrounding horn to use the HF horn “enclosure” as an integral part of the MF horn geometry.

Yeah, way back when Altec had a woofer with a miniature tweeter horn magnetically stuck to the woofer's pole piece with no need for TD beyond gapping the XO, so see no reason why this won't work since a WG will probably generate less acoustic pressure than a 15" woofer on its tweeter's fragile microphone diaphragm.
Well thats what I was thinking and hoping to hear. I knew there would be a delay needed on the HF, so aiming for 4 - 5k 3rd order HP and 1st order LP mixed slopes to compensate passively for time delay and phase according to sim. There is a 1.5 inch offset with 1/4" distance between mid driver dustcap and HF driver magnet. That should be enough room for mid driver excursion to spare. 5k WL is about 2.7 inches or 0.2 ms, so I'm dealing with about 1/2 WL acoustic offset @ 4.5k with HF driver mounted 1.5" ahead of mid. The extra 180 deg of negative phase shift should get both drivers summed properly with the 3rd order HP and 1st order LP @4.5k, given the driver's themsleves don't have any inherent phase offset of their own.
