Mostly posting because I think this is cool and a lot of people probably don't know this is a thing, but Quam sells a dual voice coil 8" speaker. Been playing with it, and while it's not hi-fi it's better than I'd expected for a $20 speaker used in budget public addressing applications. I'm running it in free air off a TDA2822 chip amp that's good for about 400mw per channel at 6 volts, and it's able to fill a small room.
Probable frequency response is around 120hz - 10khz, with heavy vocal-range pronunciation but otherwise flattish. Decent detail.
I'm thinking of making a portable boombox with this. Since they can run without an enclosure I'm thinking I can put this in a box little bigger than the cutout and with depth only to the rear driver magnet.
