I have received a question from an audio friend who has had enough with tubes and asked me about the FW amps.
I am only familiar with the J2 and SIT 1s.
He is wanting to drive two QUAD 57s per channel. I told him he should use one channel of amplifier per speaker whatever he decides upon. One stereo amp per channel.
Anybody here have any experience using any of the FIRST WATT amps with the QUAD 57?
There is a thread in the PLANARS & EXOTICS forum but it only speculates on how a J2 would perform.
Anyone with experience with FW and 57s?

No doubt that method works every time.
But I was not sure if generg was a denizen of DIYAudioland - though the name seemed familiar.
Will do as instructed!
Thanks,

I have used M2, AJ and F5 (all DIY) on my 57. In my ears none of them release the full potential in the 57.
I use Quad II as the "potential" reference, giving the same magic to the 57 as the M2 gives to a conventional speaker.

This article says, "15 good watts."

I used to drive double stacked 57s with a variety of amps, Quad 405, 303, big SET Tube and other. By far the best was the Hiraga 20W Class-A. Since the Pass amps are in the same spirit, they should do just as well. I was surprised that 20 WPC was enough, but it was plenty.
