Just a couple of things I tried with these speakers (1st Gen) that wielded unexpectedly pleasant results.

I unscrewed both the woofer and tweeter and applied a good amount of blue-tack behind the drivers (round flat surface behind the magnet). Everything became less harsh and easier to listen with better focus.

While examining the speaker and trying to figure what else to do without messing with electronics/crossover I decided to unscrew the bottom black plate and see the rest of the construction (I had already removed the rubber feet long ago). Nothing to see there as it's just a base for the speaker.
I took a shot and connected the speakers without the plates and could not believe nor understand the difference in the sound. It is FAR from subtle.
Everything is better. Gone is the boomy bass and for the first time lyrics are completely intelligible.
My only guess is that the plate used to vibrate along with the speaker which muddied up the sound.
Give it a try , it's just 4 screws per speaker.

So with an extra hole where the plate used to be if i understand correctly? You could try 10 mm felt (with double sided tape) for the complete back, side, upper, down walls. Brings some extra damping on the panels and a bit tighter bass/ better mid in most cases ymmv. Try experimenting with a tad bit wool in het midst of the cabinet. Dont throw away the old damping 🙂 so you can place it back if you dont like it.

Actually no hole, the plate I am referring to is screwed to actual bottom wooden side of the speaker, the current series (Quad 11 Classic)as I can tell from the web doesn't have it. Take a look at the old generation, it is the black surface underneath the speaker.

Hi good to hear you've had good results from a little tweaking 😀 I did a similar thing with the rear of my tweeter in my Mission centre but with bitumen. I also put blue tak around capacitors on the crossover board apparently to prevents them from vibrating and blue tak the underside of the crossover board. Changing the internal cables to QED Silver Anniversary had a great effect too but a little careful soldering may be needed here.
