QL Hornresp

Hi there,

I've had a good search through the hornresp manual and google searches, but I cannot find any explanation of the 'QL' parameter. This is for a bass reflex subwoofer.

I can see from manipulating it that it affects the size of the lump in the low corner created by the port. I see Hornresp refers to it as 'Quality Factor'.

Roughly, I'm guessing it means losses due to natural factors such as the sound lost to cabinet resonances etc. But how do I adjust the QL parameter to represent what my built enclosure will sound like? Or is it best just to leave it on 7 and see how it comes out?

Thanks

That's a good point, in regard to losses due to cabinet resonances. I hadn't really thought about those contributing to QL, but of course, there will be some losses caused by cabinet vibrations. The value of QL = 7 seems to be a good starting point for any design. Keep in mind that, at least in a vented-box loudspeaker, there is a triumvirate of losses at Fb: QL, QB, and QP.

The Find tool in Hornresp Help could have been used to search for references to QL. 🙂
