I have an OHP, and a projection panel but might want to upgrade to a better resolution monitor.
My main question is, could I just strip down any LCD monitor and have it placed over my OHP and have a video projector without problems? Obviously I'd have to get the right screen size and everything. But there are many high res lcd monitors on eBay selling for under $100, I am probably willing to pay that much for one.
Also another question I have is this. My projection panel is really dark and kind of has a tinted sort of glass window over the LCD. This makes the picture appear to not be so bright and vibrant. If I got an LCD from a monitor would I have the same effect? Or would it be much brighter?

My experience with lcd-projection is very limited, but i can say this
projection lcd panels are different to lcds found in direct screens in that
they are more opaque crystals yielding higher contrast and bigger screen
sizes, i also want to experiment with regular lcds but seeing the prices of
branded lcd projectors at my local electrical appliance store starting at
around $1200 aud, i get really sceptical about building one with regular
lcds, unless they are projection lcds ill wait to see what more experienced
users have to say about it, and you shouldnt also forget that the price of
a good OHP starts at about $700 aud where i live

I've already got an OHP, I'm just looking for an LCD. I want one thats at least 1024x768 resolution. I'm willing to pay about $100 for one.
xga panels are very rare and expensive. the spec will not match today's LCD monitors'. if you want XGA resolution, the most effective way is to stripe a lcd monitor and use the opticals from your OHP. Downside of this route is that most OHP's stage size is smaller than a 15" LCD monitor.
