Saw this ad for Pete Millett's LR Phono as built by Beezar Audio:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1164137451...2P18NB&hash=item1b1accc802:g:txAAAOSwlC9nVF66
The chassis is split case by Landfall audio, anodized and engraved which alone is $200+
No affiliation but looked like a good deal and is likely a very solid build

I saw that too. True, it doesnt have the SUT's, it just switches the input impedance to 100ohm instead of 47K.
I think the Pass Pearl 2 here does the same thing for MM/MC compatibility, but it does have more gain.

Solid state MC capable units consistently come short of step up + MM stage. In my opinion MC SS phono stage is a waste of money. Well, maybe Tom Evans plastic toy any of DIY guys can apparently better here for 1/100 of the cost would change my opinion. I'm saving my pennies for one .
To add I have diyhify supply Thorsten designed LCR tube phono stage ( MM ) and its a firecracker.

Don't disagree, but I dont think that detracts from this unit. The LRP is considered one of the best MM stages out there, and you could easily add an external SUT from Cinemag or Sowter.
I've built Salas Ultra FSP, VTA PH-16, Pearl 2 (2 of them), RJM Emerald, Millett LRP (2 of them), Hagerman Bugle and Cornet 3, and ended up keeping only the LRP and Cornet 3.

Absolutely true and most MC transformers worth to have had been recognized already and the prices reflect it. About Cornet I'm on the fence. I had 2 of those units and they are on technically correct but emotionally impaired spectrum of phono stages. Jim Hagerman is by number designer. I met him and he is a great guy. Just on EE tip of a scale typical for DIY audio scrudges.🙂
Yea, just a few years ago I bought a pair of CM-1254 for under $200 directly from Cinemag, seems like prices are over double now.
For the Cornet, there are a few things going for it from my perspective -- it is very well engineered, compact, doesn't require HV power transformer, uses common tubes (that I have alot of), quiet, inexpensive! I keep it around as a tube alternative if I'm in the mood, but generally LRP is connected

Just a note. I’m the new owner of the phono amp mentioned above.
The Millett LR has been built and discussed here on the forum previously.
What hasn’t been mentioned here before that I came across elsewhere was that the Millett LR phono can supposedly be altered to provide enough gain for MC cartridges simply by altering the values at R5 and R7…to good effect.
This unit I acquired has a DPDT switch mounted in the back of the case with different value resistors on the two sets of poles that allow the value of R5 and R7 to be shifted from 10K to 100K in order to cause the first op amp in the circuit to produce an additional 20dB of gain. Go figure.
I don’t know that I’ll want to use this phono amp like that. I have a pair of Intact Audio step ups I’d rather try.
Nice to know its an option.
