Dayton PS-95 Full Range 3-1/2” drivers on sale for $18bucks. They have a very good reputation for high quality construction and sound. I coudn’t resist and bought two. I’ll have fun experimenting with these babies.

That’s a good deal. If you have $62 of other stuff to get then shipping is free for a pair.

I finished my little project (such as it is) using the Dayton PS95-8 Point Source drivers. I use them in my workout room in the basement.
My results have that funky homemade look. All I have to work with are shitty hand tools so the finished product looks like drunken elves manufactured them. However, the sound is head turning. People are astounded that big sound is coming from speakers so small. Bass is deeper than it should be for speaks that size.
Peace

Your standards are higher than mine, Jim, they looks just fine and nicer than whatever you can buy at that price at a big box electronics store. Enjoy! My results have that funky homemade look. The boxes are .2cu ft with a 1” x 4” port tube in the rear.
These little drivers are just spectacular.

Looks good to me, Jim!
I ran a pair on my desktop for a few weeks and recently gifted them to my sister. They are a real gem and pretty much a no-brainer at the sale price.

i wonder how that driver would be in a Cornu spiral....then the wall space in his workout room would be taken up by speakers and he would be forced to sell me those posters to fund the project...seriously cool posters Jim!
I used the PS95 on open baffle and enjoy them. It's a versatile driver that can be used in many ways. One of the better sounding drivers imo.

I really enjoyed your review and may try that OB design. My shitty hand tools should be able to manage it. Thanks.
The Dayton Audio 95 pointsource have a great balance, warm midbass. I put them in a JVC cherry wood (solid wood) SP-UX2000R. Screw holes even match up. Not as detailed as some other 3 inch drivers, but sweet and balanced.
I have a pair in a 0.40x foam core mini karlsonator build. They have an audience of at least 20 of my co-workers every day and I still get complements about the sound. Very happy with these. I have another pair waiting for the next project.
