Do any of you techies have knowledge of the Proceed Pav preamp? I thought I was upgrading the unit by replacing some high ESR caps. The unit no longer functions. Is it possible that these 68uf caps with ESR values of 10 ohms are required in the circuit to work with the IC's? Help!

While I can offer no direct advice, I note that using the search facility for Proceed AND Preamplifier just netted me 35 hits, so if you do the same and trawl through those posts you may uncover people that may be able to help you (...who for whatever reason missed your original question).

B&Okie: Hi, I found that a "One For All" URC 8910 learning remote works decently. You should be able to control many functions as well as the volume. I found one online for about $26 shipped. The amp code is 1912. Don't expect to get every funtion- and ,yes, you'll need to work with it a bit. Good luck, Wayle45.
10ohms ESR is damn high. I would imagine they should be so high for a reason. Some LDO voltage regulators specify a minimum ESR cap following them in order to protect their output stages during startup while the caps charge. It may be possible that you've blown something by the higher inrush current required by the low-ESR ones. Measure the voltage at the caps and before the regulators (or whatever precedes the caps) and see what happens.
PWatts: Thanks for the response. The Pav had a bad bridge rectifier which would blow fuses at startup. I replaced it and the bad caps.

Remote is not original, but some universal model ordered from Hungary recently.
Unit is not possible to turn off in any way, but it is possible to turn it on from the fromt panel... (hardwired switch in the back will of course turn it completely off)
I can select source and adjust volume, but not choose mode or adjust balance.
Should I be able to choose mode or adjust balance when inputting a normal stereo signal? (I think and hope so)
If I connect a projector to the composite output it gives me a blue screen and nothing else. Should volume or something be displayed in the OSD?
When I opened it up I found a loose screw rolling around, a swollen cap and a 2wire cable hanging loose. (very thin black one, is it some antenna???)
If the issue is with some processor it is a rather lost case, but if some supply voltage is bad or so I could do some measuring with a scope and recapping et.c.
Anyone know anything? 🙂
