I am having problems with my NEC 602 reading CDRs. I just keep getting an E. Has anyone else experience their 602 being finicky? Is there any insight or tips on getting it to work?
Thanks

Hello!
I have heard of people complaining
about the 602 not reading some media
types of CD-R. My unit, which was NOS,
has played any media that I have put in
it, including the black Memorex CD-Rs.
How old is your unit, and or any idea
how many hours are on it? I have
wondered about all this, and have a
second NOS unit (still sealed) that I
will try out with CD-R media.

I have no idea about the age or condition of the player. I bought it in a group buy that the seller got from ebay. I have gotten a Kodak gold CDR to work, but that is it as far as CDRs go.
I have run into a few CDR's that don't work on my 602, but the majority do. I have yet to figure out any sort of logic to which work and which don't. They were all burned on the same computer using the same media at the same speed, but some work and some don't. Luckly about 90% do work. I am going to try rip and reburn a few of the discs that don't play now and see if they work, I'll let you know how that turns out. One thing that I have found out is that when it fails to read a CDR I usually have to turn it off and turn it back on before it works with any other CDRs, at least that's been my experience, YMMV...
