I have had this transport for 5 years or so. Today I don"t know what happened, it seems the outboard transformer failed. There was smoke coming out of the its enclosure and a foul smell. I am not sure if the transformer failed or what seem as diodes. I connected it to AC and there is zero voltage readings at the outputs.
This is the latest version that has 4 leads going into the transport, I guess two different voltages. Does anyone have any experience with a similar one? The diodes are different looking than the regular cylindrical types one is used to. The diodes are kind of spherical and in gray color. I am wondering if I could substitute these with regular diodes to check if these are the culprit...Any ideas welcome.

A picture would help. Diodes should be easy to test and replaceable with anything suitably rated. If the transformer is "outboard" and smoking it doesn't sound good. Usually trannys fail due to short on the secondaries rather than an inherent fault in the tranny. Are the secondaries not fused ?
