Powering passive subwoofer?

Okay dumb question time -)

I've got a HT receiver with an unpowered subwoofer out jack. If I plug that output into a second amp/receivers input [aux input?] and then use that receivers speaker jacks to power a passive subwoofer I'm okay? Or at least no crazier then before I had this thought 😀

Or am I missing some gotcha?

That passive subwoofer might have a crossover on top of the one in your receiver.

Sure, that's one form of biamping. We used to do that in the days before plate amps. The only disadvantage is you have to pick an XO point and stick with it. (or have lots of big coils and caps around to experiment.)

Is the woofer yours or store bought?

I haven't bought anything yet. I've learned to ask questions first then spend money. 😉

I'm thinking of eventually ending up with one of the Peerless 12" drivers but I want to try building something smaller and passive first.

Good question. I'm more interested in it being good for music.
