Does anybody know how to wire up a PEC potentiometer of 100K between a CD player and a SS amp as a volume control?
I am building a simple wood box but want to add a NOS AB carbon composition resistor in the signal to get some buffering smoothness without building a powered CF buffer?
Will running a low value resistor in series on 1 lug soften the sound?

It would be better to use a 10k potentiometer for this. For each channel, the CD goes to top of the pot, the
amplifier to the center terminal, and the CD and amplifier grounds connect to the bottom terminal of the pot.

I did not see a resistor in the DACT link. I want to add a Allen Bradley NOS carbon composition resistor somewhere before or after the potentiometer to add a cheap softness for the sound. Something that will slightly mimick the concept of the Decware Zbox but spending $1.50 instead of $549.00?
CD player is an Onkyo C-7030 and the amp is a Dalaudio Retro 3886. This amp has no volume and requires a control. Why 10K vs. 100k?

If you want to use a resistor to add character then connect it in "Shunt mode."

NO, read the article!
The shunt resistor should be close to the value of the potentiometer.
So for 10k a shunt of 9.5k would be appropriate. (1/2w is appropriate)
Read and understand the wiring diagram, it is reversed from conventional pot!

For a 100k pot
use a 91k shunt. (or as close as you can get)
