The cd changer has an output of 2v.
Can I run a potentiometer between the cd changer and the power amp and not use a seperate preamp at all?

Correct. The power amp is a P101 from Rod Elliott's site.
O.K. I will give it a try and report back if I run into a problem.

You can. Try a 10k logarithmic pot, or 220k linear pot (the input impedance of the amp will bend the curve into an approx log curve).
richie00boy have you read the better volume control article by Rod Elliott?
ESP - A Better Volume Control
I have used this method on other amps with success.
Turns a "B" pot more linear.Except I'm not sure about how to use the ratio formula.
A 10k "B" pot hooked to a 6.5k ohm to 8.5k ohm resistor to maintain the ratio?

I have seen the article. I don't recommend you try law faking with a 10k pot as you might load your source too much. That's why I suggested the values I did.
