I found an old article about modding an Optimus PCDP. Does anybody here know how I could mod a Panasonic SL-SX? I'm thinking of putting in bigger caps -- any suggestions?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Actually the Panasonic's are rather hard to modify. Especially the SL-SX series which uses tiny cramped cases. You could always crack it open and see for yourself if you could fit bigger caps in the power supply. But in my opinion you wont gain much in terms of sound quality. Changing the headphone opamp to something with a bit more oomph might help a bit though. (be sure that the new opamp can work with as little voltage as the stock one (it might be very low and hard to find)) Changing the opamp might also cause a faster drain of the batteries if the quiescent current is higher.
For better results with PCDP I really suggest you try some external headphone amp with the line out of the Panasonic.
For more info, check Perander's page, http://headwize.com or www.head-fi.com.
For even more quality, you could get a PDCP with a SPDIF out and build your own DAC (then again, implementation is the key, as bad a DAC implementation would actually degrade quality over the not so horrible stock DAC).
