Just got alot of my old gear installed and I have terrible static coming from the speakers powered by my PPI 2120. It is worst right when I turn the amp on (car on or off doesn't matter) and the volume of the static / popping is mostly loud but randomly diminishes. It does not coincide with the volume of the head unit going up and down. Seems to get quieter after a few minutes but randomly has loud pops and static. It does this whether or not the the source rca cables are plugged in or not. Also, moving the crossover switch on the amp seems to be a catalyst for this noise and while messing with it makes it worse initially, sometimes it makes it go away altogether. Then, a few minutes later it comes back. Again, this happens whether the engine is running or not and whether the car is moving or stationary. I'd like to fix it myself if you can tell me what components these symptoms point to.

It could be a dirty switch or a dirty potentiometer. If you operate all of the switches and pots through their entire range 50-100 times, does that help?
