Anyone tried to use a Plus brand Direct Projector? One of these uses 4 * 300 watt lamps. Looks a lot like a normal LCD projector crossed with a photocopier

This is the one I have access to. But I haven't got my hands on it yet. Will it wash out the image from the panel. Does it shoot light up to the paper?
I can almost get a whole 15" LCD monitor on this baby!
Any help appreciated!!!

I have it for free
They normally cost $1899 but I have picked this up for next to nothing from a contact. Will it work? That is the question...

Holy cow. I just got something like this in an auction for about $20. I couldn't find any info on the thing anywhere... looks just like the one that I won. It's in the mail now... we'll see how it works when I get it.

I wasn't even going to buy the bulbs, as the cheapest I've found ENG's is about $16, so that means about $65 to get a new set of 4 bulbs for my system.... the nice thing about this opaque projector is that if you backlit it from the top, I think it would basically be an overhead projector with the optics turned upside down -- I'm going to lay a powered laptop upside-down on the top of the projector and see if I get anything out the projection side. If I do, I think I'll up the backlight of the panel by using the side-lit stuff we've been discussing on other boards, and project my image that way. 🙂

ENH lamps might fit... Projectors with ENH lamps can sometimes be upgraded to ENG bulbs so the reverse might work but you'll only get 1000w total. Check carefully that the lamp bases are the same. I'm presuming ENH lamps are cheaper of course...
ENG 120volt
300 watts
GY5.3 Base
MR16 shape
15 Hour life span YUCK!!!!
ENH* 120volt
250 watts
GY5.3 base
MR16 shape
175 Hour life span!!!! Yay!!!
Worth a try. Plus they should be about $12... Buy 10 and you can probably get them for $10 each...

Sweet! Thanks for the info. 🙂
I'm going to see how well the optics work... if I don't need to buy bulbs all the better. It seems as though the optics of such an artograph style projector would lend a self-lit item to project its image through the lens. If I can do the high-power backlight, I think that the shape of that projector is fantastic for a compact video projector... no annoying vertical arm to stick up in the air and get in the way. This way I can mount it on the underside of my loft and project onto the wall.
I'll keep everyone posted as to my progress and how it all works out.
